Joe came to me about 25 years ago to have me prepare his tax return and we became friends. When he told me he had some self-employment income I asked what he did, thinking that it was pretty impressive that he was still working in his 70's. He said he was a machinery dealer and I said my father was a machinery dealer. He said, "You're Tom O'Brien's son?" Well, we did much more than prepare a tax return that day. He shared many stories about other machinery dealers I had known and also stories about his life and his parents. Little did I know he would still be selling machinery at 97. I was always impressed by the fact that he stayed relevant and in the present, rather than just living in the past. I think his work kept him alive and gave him joy and purpose until the very end. He was a great role model and friend for me as I hope to live a very long time and I think I will probably keep working even after I no longer need to. I will miss Joe, but I'm happy he's in a better place, probably a celestial machinery showroom. He's the last of the old Third Street machinery dealers. It's the end of an era.

We weep today at the loss of our dear uncle, a kinder & gentler soul could never be found. I cannot help to find solace as I envision the moment you entered heaven. How joyous for you to leave a fulfilled life on earth of 97 years and be reunited with all your love ones. Friends, siblings and your parents, most especially Grandmom, who has waited so long to embrace you once again. Rest in peace dear Uncle Joe, you were loved and will be missed by all. Love, Ron & Carol

Joe and I watched the Masters together every spring, he and I bonded over the Phillies. - loved hearing his stories about his life. He was such a sweet man, and had such a great attitude about life, even when it was very difficult for him these past years. I will miss him. He and my late father in law, Thomas O'Brien, were machinery dealers way back when. Anne O'Brien

Uncle Joe, You are a true gentleman and it has been a pleasure getting to really know you even more these past years. At 97 you were still working and sharper than most people I know. What an inspiration for living life to the fullest. You will be missed! You can now dance in the streets of heaven with Jesus! You deserve it!
