My Dear Kelly,
You have taken a piece of my heart with you. Although you have moved on, I still carry you with me in my heart. There are many things (every day) that I experience that bring you to mind. I think of your life with your family. I remember you as a new beautiful baby; learning new things every day. You were quick to learn. And then there was school. You were very quiet at times, but that didn’t mean you weren’t thinking hard about what you were doing or when you were doing your crafts. Your art work through the years was very good. I was so proud! When the radio was on, you sang along with the music. You would often use the lyrics to make a situation funny or to get someone laughing. Your sense of humor was unique.
I remember you getting ready for the prom. We went to every shop – Kelly – that you could think of. We finally found a gown that was in a magazine in a very special shop. Kelly, you were so beautiful that day. Again, my pride for you exploded. When a mother experiences a daughter through all her growth and accomplishments, the pride she feels is personal and exceptional.
Yes, Kelly, you managed to be very creative with your art and especially creating an outfit for Halloween. You and your sister managed to paint faces to perfection and make costumes.
Then there was college. You have worked so hard and managed to be on the Dean’s List. Working several jobs and getting your grades was phenomenal. I was always proud of you. As you followed your career as a nurse and supervisor, we spoke many times of your experiences with your job. The elderly patients were your favorite. I think these patients loved your wit Kelly, and how you would sing to them by associating the lyrics of a song to them, in this way, they would laugh and for the moment, they would forget their problems. You had a special gift for people.
Yes Kelly, you had the most loving and dedicated friend when you met Rich Zawisza during your college years. He has remained loyal to you during a long and very difficult time in your life.
Your illness was very devastating for me.
Your battle with cancer was an example of the strength you showed all of your life when things got difficult.
Many times when I’m driving or walking through the mall, something appears to remind me of you. Yes, I know you are with me in my heart and you are always in my thoughts.
Love Mom

November 6 will always be a special day in my life because a loving cheerful person named Kelly was born that day. We celebrated many happy birthdays together. Now that Kelly is born into new life in the grace of God, I am sure that she is still celebrating somewhere with loved ones and still watching over those left behind. Love you forever Kel.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Mrs. McKernan, Family, and Richard,
I am so deeply saddened by your loss. Kelly and I were great friends growing up and throughout high school. She always made me laugh and she was always singing. We had so many adventures together. She was such a beautiful person inside and out and I am so lucky to have had her as my friend. May the memory of Kelly's beautiful smile warm your heart and give you strength in the days to come.

To The McKernan Family; My heartfelt condolences go out to all. It is the most difficult task to bear, being the ones left behind. The Kelly I know will not want you to grieve for long...but to remember her in easier times. I met Kelly in the early 90's when we both accepted positions as nurses. We have seen and felt an awful lot together through the years, and always maintained a good friendship. I will forever remember Kelly and her strong determination, as well as her sense of humor. She will be thought of always, with a smile. Rest in peace Kelly, I will keep you in my prayers.

My heartfelt condolences to the entire McKernan family.
I've been friends with Cathy since I was a little girl, so I have many memories of Kelly. When I was young, I always thought that she was so beautiful. When I was a teenager, she always had something witty, (or something wise ha ha) to say as we came and went from the house. As we got older and all went our separate ways, I didn't see Kelly as much, but when I did, she was always the same to me, as if no time had passed us by. She said what she felt whether we liked it or not, and I have always respected that in her. Her road was not an easy one, but she toughed it out and never gave up.
Rest in peace, Kelly, you have left your mark on those who love you... you will be sadly missed and remembered always.
