Following his time in the Peace Corps, he served as Director of Community Legal Services in Philadelphia, Palmetto Legal Services in Columbia, South Carolina, and the National Health Law Program, where he worked to advance access to healthcare, housing, and family justice. He was the son of Helen Claire McGonigle and Michael Joseph Lavin, and is predeceased by his siblings Marie Therese Galbally, Helen Brinkmann, John Lavin, and William Lavin. He also mourned the loss of his longtime partner, Shamim M. Hussein, in 2023. To Larry, humans across the globe are beautifully connected. He traveled to over 40 countries on six continents. He was the heart of the Lavin family, remembered for his warmth, humor, and the care he took in keeping loved ones connected across generations. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and former colleagues who will deeply miss him. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Larry was a dear friend and traveling companion for over 1/2 a century. I shall miss his wisdom, insights and most of all his humor. How do you thank a guy for thousand laughs? Larry, I hope to see you again in another time and in another place. Patrick

I met Larry when we were high school students in Philadelphia, PA in 1956. He was a fun guy and a great dancer. We remained in touch over the years and I last saw him 10 years ago when he visited South Carolina . Despite vision and health issues Larry was the vibrant, smart ,caring person all who knew him remembered. He will be missed. Barbara Baker Temple

My Mother, Claire Migeot-Mansueto, and Larry were first cousins. I fondly remember his bright smile and cheerfulness around everyone. He had such a kind heart. I spoke to him around the holiday, reminiscing about family and how everyone was doing. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

My deepest sympathy to the entire family. I took care of Larry for 2 1/2 years and one thing I can say about Larry , he has a wonderful heart to everyone. I will miss him but just rekindle the times when he is witty and gives you that beautiful smile that I will always cherish in my lifetime. I met some members of his family and they are the most kindest, sweetest people. May his soul rest in peace ! Adieu Larry .
