LEIGH MARSH Obituary

MARSH
DR. LEIGH ANDREW

Passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at age 90. Leigh was born in West Newton, PA on March 4, 1929 to James and Helen Marsh. From a young age he wanted to be a veterinarian. He achieved this goal by attending Penn State University to earn a BS ('51) and MS ('56) in Animal Industry; serving in the Air Force as a Lieutenant during the Korean War; and earning a VMD from the Veterinary School at the University of Pennsylvania ('59).
In 1958 he married his beloved wife Sally and they purchased a veterinary practice in North Philadelphia. Known as 'Doc,' he worked there for 55 years until age 86. They raised their family in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia. Leigh was a passionate collector of rugs and art who could talk for hours about Turkmen rugs and Pennsylvania Impressionistic art from the New Hope School.
Leigh was preceded in death by his wife Sally; parents James and Helen; and siblings James, Mae and Grace. He is survived by his children Jonathan (Barbara) of Albuquerque, NM, James (Laurie) of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Jane (Brian) of Arvada, CO; granddaughters Clara and Annie; his sister Esther; many nieces and nephews; and his cat "Slim Cooley." There will be a visitation for family and friends at the McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME on Friday, June 7 from 6 - 8 P.M. in West Newton, PA and a Funeral Service on Saturday, June 8 at 11 A.M. A memorial service will take place in Philadelphia in the fall.
In lieu of flowers, send contri-butions to the John Almquist Innovation Fund at Penn State University - online at raise.psu.edu or mailed to 240 Ag Administration Building, University Park, PA 16802.

Dr. Marsh was and will always be the light when all things seem bleak and dark. He was a very positive influence on me when faced with choice of doing what´s right or what´s easy.
I thank him deeply, he will always be in my thoughts.

I had the pleasure of going to Dr Marsh. He was a wonderful loving and caring man and Veterinarian. I think of him often, I met him through a mutual friend Peggy who since passed away as well. You are very much missed.

I know this is very late in writing. Dr Marsh was the best. He came to our home in 1965 to put our 15 yr old dog down. He also came to my Mom´s funeral in 1990. Her own Dr didn´t come but our vet did. He was comical too. If I would have known he passed I would have gone to his funeral.

I will miss Dr. Marsh. I remember volunteering in his Erie Ave practice one summer. I learned so much from him. Even until adulthood he was the only one I´d take any of my pets to. There will never be any other doctor such as Dr. Marsh. My condolences to his family. He was a wonderful person who served a forgotten community. Thank you.

Dr. Marsh. so many memories. My parents Pat and Bob Allatt had a cemetery and lots of dogs. They always took me to his office for their vet visits. It was always the best time ever! My parents were great friends with Doc and Sally for more that thirty years. he especially had a great time with my mom. They liked to drink scotch. He even came to our house a few times. living in a cemetery , we threw great Halloween parties lol! Bless his soul, he was one of the good ones! He had a kind and giving heart. I wish there were more people like him who actually truly cared for animals the way he did. But I guess that's what made him special. I will always miss him. My deepest sympathy to your family.
