MARLENE REHNIG Obituary

REHNIG MARLENE HILDEGARD (nee EITER) 78, of Cheltenham, PA, passed away on February 8th, 2022. Marlene was born in Philadelphia to Henry P. and Hildegard Neps Eiter on August 8, 1943. She grew up in Olney and Cheltenham, graduating from Cheltenham High School in 1961. She graduated with honors from Drexel University with a B.S. in Business Education, and went on to complete an M.B.A. from Drexel. She worked as Secretary to President William Hagerty of Drexel University from 1965 until 1973. She later worked for Chase Econometrics in Bala Cynwyd, PA, before starting her own typesetting business in 1979, later to be joined by her husband, Jürgen, which they ran, together, until their retirement. Marlene was an exceptionally fun, creative, intelligent and very hard working woman, with an invigorating sense of humor and inspiring spirit and energy. Her poetic and artistic creativity were always a delight to her friends, family and everyone. She loved music, singing and playing the piano, participating in several choirs beginning with the St. Paul's German Choir at age 18. She enjoyed helping and spending time with people, especially older friends, and participating in fun cultural activities. Her love for and joy in the company of animals - dogs, cats, squirrels and more! - was a beautiful thing. Marlene is survived by and will be very missed by her husband of 56 years, Jürgen, her daughter Kristie Lynn, and her son-in-law Bryon A. Jesse. She is also survived by two very sweet 'fur grandkittens,' Mitsy and Josie. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 23rd at 11 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 5th St. and Nedro Ave., Philadelphia, followed by Interment at Lawnview Cemetery in Rockledge. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Marlene's memory to the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 350 E. Erie Ave., Phila., PA 19134. Marlene brought much joy to those who came to know her. Mary and I and others truly enjoyed her entertaining at social events. She had quite a sense of humor and was fun to be with. We were impressed with her accomplishments and life's achievements. We will truly miss her.

I am a fellow singer in the Reading Liederkranz and enjoyed very much the informal sings we had at the Erzgebirge. I agree completely with her description in her obituary--she was a very welcoming and spirited fellow singer and a great asset to the chorus and area German events generally. She was one of the key people from her chorus that I always looked for when I came to the Erzgebirge or other United Singers of Philadelphia events--so ein grosser Verlust. Mit mein herzliches Beileid fuer Ihre Familie, Ruth Baker
