PERL MARTIN "MARTY" March 17, 2021. Marty left this world much in the same way that he lived—calmly and peacefully. His family knew him as a kind and mild-mannered features editor at the Philadelphia Inquirer where he worked his magic with words for over 30 years before retiring. He spent the remainder of his years continuing to enjoy his many interests and passions. He loved attending the Philadelphia Orchestra and dining at the latest and greatest gourmet restaurants in the city with his wife, Sunya, to whom he was married almost 56 years. He delighted in visiting New York City to see operas with his sister, Marilyn, as well as traveling the world with his family. He was deeply devoted to his children, Shari and Aimee, his grandchildren Richie, Alexandra, Hannah, Alyssa and Trey and great grandson Alexander. He never hesitated to jump in the car or even on a plane to attend their concerts, dance recitals, and graduations. He was immensely proud of all of their accomplishments. He will be remembered not only for his patience and kindness but for his love of music, reading, trains, and sports—particularly baseball and hockey. Although he lived most of his life in Pennsylvania, he was born and raised in the Bronx, New York where his loyalty to the Yankees and the Rangers began. He was even laid to rest wearing his beloved Yankees baseball cap. Like his mother, he was an avid reader who shared book recommendations with friends and family. He passed a love of reading and a passion for music on to multiple generations. Marty was the glue that held his family together and will always be remembered for sending the best cards for anniversaries and birthdays. He had a knack for finding just the right card for each occasion, most of which would make you laugh because they were infused with his dry wit and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed but the lessons he left behind serve as a daily reminder of what matters most in life: love unconditionally, listen with an open mind, enjoy your passions and never pass up the chance to take a nap; you'll wake up refreshed and ready for the ride home. www.levinefuneral.com
