MARY BELL Obituary

BELL MARY T. 87, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2022 at her home with family and friends by her side. Mary was born in Philadelphia living most of her childhood in Fairmont where she attended St. Francis Xavier then later graduated in 1953 from J.W. Hallahan Girl's Catholic High School before moving to Gray's Ferry where she lived for 65 years. Mary worked at Curtis Publishing then later worked the majority of her career in the Promotions Department at the Philadelphia Inquirer, retiring at the age of 72. Mary was a faithful and beloved long standing member of St. Gabriel's Parish. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Ruth Bell (nee Sweeney) and James Bell, her infant sister, Lorraine Dawn, brother, James Martin and sister Anna Marie. Mary compassionately cared for Jimmy during his decades long illness and more recently for Anna during her final year. Mary is survived by her youngest brother, Samuel J.M. Bell, who has been beside her side daily providing spiritual support and love, several cousins, beloved God-children, all of the spiritually supportive Priests and Sisters at St. Gabriel's Parish and beyond, along with faithful friend and neighbor, Kate Rinick, who brought the Blessed Sacrament weekly. Special appreciation goes to the H.U.P. Home Hospice Care Team, the Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group led by Beverly and Ross Trimboli, and Anthony Mirarchi, April Lohr and Kathy French who provided dependable services or loving care. Mary felt truly blessed to have her very own "village" of angels when she needed it most. Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 13th at St. Gabriel's Church, 29th and Dickinson Streets, Phila, PA 19146 where friends and family may call 9:15-10:15 A.M. at the Church. Interment SS. November 9, 2023

It's November 9, 2023 and I just read Mary's obit. We worked at the Inquirer and Daily News. We would connect ever year since we retired. I have many good memories of Mary at work. I saw her many days at lunch praying the rosary in one of the lounges. In our earlier years we would take a walk together at lunch. I was just thinking we haven't connected this year and tried to reach her and came upon her obit. I still remember our last conversation in early 2022. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. May you rest in peace, Mary.
