To the Walsh family:

I was 3 years behind Matt at Corpus Christi and at LC. Matt was always a nice guy. He always had time to say hi to an undergraduate. I will keep you in my prayers at this time.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Matt's death. Although Matt graduated before I arrived at Swarthmore, I played football with John, Tom and Peter, and I'm sure Matt was their inspiration in becoming individuals of the highest quality.

My family's thoughts and prayers go to out to his wife, children and the entire Walsh family.

To the Walsh family: I am deeply saddened by your loss. I was a senior on the football squad (class '78) when I believe Matt was a freshman. I will always remember his great smile and enthusiasm. And what a rugged, determined athlete he was! Also, the wonderful Walsh family, his siblings, and his parents and the support they gave the football program. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Warm regards, Marc

To the Walsh and Victor families,

Matt was a terrific person as we knew from our years at Swarthmore. I recall Matt "celebrating" the end of finals one year by going to Collier Field house to lift weights.

He was "pumped" even before his work out. Matt was fun to know and be around. He made others smile. We are truly sorry for your loss and our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

-Sincerely,

Greg & Lisa Shortell

To the Walsh and Victor families:

It is with great sadness that I learned today of Matt's passing. Although I have not seen him since college, it was a crushing blow when I heard the news. Matt was always such a great personality as well as a complete gentleman.

I will keep your families in my prayers as this is the most powerful thing I know to do.

May God bless you all and keep you in his care.

To the Walsh Family,

While it's been many years since I've seen Matt, I will always remember him as one of the most genuine, caring people I have known. I am truly sorry for your loss.

To Deirdre and all the Walshs,

Matt was one of the finest Swarthmore atudent-athletes I ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. His spirit was endless and his heart great (as in all the Walsh family). In every way he was a credit to college, family and faith. It is all too often the sad truth that the good are gone too soon. He was the rare kind of student who made a career at Swarthmore worth doing. With warmest regards to you all, deep sympathy, and many more happy memories of times together in the stands and on the fields. Yours, Tom and Ann Blackburn
