Michael A. Bailin Obituary

Bailin Michael A. Age 82, died Dec. 8, 2024, due to complications of dementia. Born in Newark, NJ, to Jack and Hella (Loewenstein) Bailin, he graduated Union High School, Dartmouth College, and Yale Law School. He met his beloved wife, Sally, on a blind date; they were married for 56 years. He was a proud father, a giant in the youth development and philanthropy fields, and a mentor to generations of younger leaders. He held a deep love of classical music, was a voracious reader, and he hiked every inch of Philadelphia's Wissahickon Park with his treasured dogs and countless friends. Mike was a fierce advocate for young people and a champion for philanthropy. He helped build a number of organizations, including The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation (NY) and Philadelphia-based Public/Private Ventures (P/PV). He served as a board member or adviser to scores of nonprofit organizations, including The Center for Effective Philanthropy and CoGenerate (formerly Encore.org). Through his work at Leap Ambassadors, he distilled decades of experience in the non-profit and philanthropy worlds to advance organizational effectiveness. He is survived by his wife Sally, sister Bobbi, children Deborah and Sarah and their spouses Scott and Bill, grandkids Norah and Will, and grand dogs Winnie and Daisy. A Celebration of Mike's Life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Friends of the Wissahickon, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, or A New Leash on Life. You can contact the family at [email protected].
