Dr. Zabel,
So sorry to hear about the death of your loving husband. I hope I can give you some kind of comfort as you took time from your busy day to comfort me when my husband became ill. Our prayers were answered. I will pray for you and your family for strength. May God be with you.

Dear Dr. Zabel and Family,
I was stunned and saddened to hear of the sudden loss of your husband and Dad. Though I didn't have the privilege of knowing Mike, many a Sunday morning I recognized your family in church and thought how wonderful it was to see a busy family with varied demands take the time to come together to celebrate the ritual of the Mass.
My prayers are with you all.

I too was forturnate enough to share some college years with both Zabe(as he was known to Breeners) and Chrissy while at Hawk Hill. I am deeply saddened by our family's loss. It still brings a smile to my face to think of him showing up at Breen with the back of his car loaded with Oscar Meyer products for all of us in Breen. Although the past 25 years has not allowed me to spend time with the Zabel's, I have always kept tabs on them here in Virginia. Chrissy, I know the many good memories you and your children shared with Zabe will uplift your spirits and always carry you on. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of the Zabel family.

I Iived with Mike in college. One of my best memories was when Mike and his roommates "borrowed" at least a dozen Christmas trees from the other houses on campus at St. Joe's. In order to keep it a secret from our faculty resident - Father Joe - they somehow managed to cram all of them into their room. This transformed their room into a forest of pine trees. I am not really sure where they slept the night of the theft since every square inch of their room was occupied by the trees. The St. Joe's security force was baffled when they learned of the "case of the disappearing Christmas trees". Unfortunately, word leaked out and the rest of the campus didn't appreciate the prank. Our house - Breen Hall - was stormed by a hundred angry students the next night and mayhem ensued. Fortunately, the trees were returned and in the spirit of Christmas, peace was restored.
While Breen Hall was not a fraternity, the guys who lived there were very close. Mike will always be like a brother to me and I will miss him.

Mike Zabel was a very nice person whom I met a few times and talked to on the phone several times at the office. He was always very cheerful and full of life. My sympathy goes out to the family.
