Philip Young Obituary

YOUNG

PHILIP J., formerly a teacher for over 35 years at the Bartram High School Motivation Program, passed away suddenly on Sept. 10, 2006, at his Drexel Hill home.
Since Philip's retirement from the Philadelphia School System in 1999, he explored the capitals of Europe on an annual basis while maintaining a deep involvement in the cultural life of Philadelphia and St. Petersburg, FL, where he also maintained a residence. Among his abiding interest were the activities of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, his ongoing volunteer status at the Philadelphia Flower Show and the constant elaboration of his carefully attended garden, a place of grace and serenity. However, no interest superceded his involvement in the lives and activities of his numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews for whom he was beloved Uncle Philip.
Philip is survived by his brothers, John P. Young, and Dr. Robert J. Young; nephews, Gregory Young, Glenn Young, Philip Young, Robert Young, Andrew Young, James Young; nieces, Lori Scott, Elizabeth Breece, and Claire Young-Anderson, and numerous grandnieces and nephews all of whom will miss him dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Philip's Life Celebration Service on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 from 6-8 P.M. at ROTHERMEL/ VIDEON/GIVNISH of Havertown, 57 South Eagle Road. His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 A.M. at Saint Andrew the Apostle Church 3500 School Lane Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Interment Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA. Memorial contributions may be sent in his name to the Educational Endowment Fund at St. Andrew School. www.lifecelebration.com

Although the years seperated us as family, you always were in my heart. You were known to others as teacher, gardener, and friend, but to me you were known as one of my favorite cousins. I remember chasing rabbits in the backyard on Limkiln Pike with the salt shaker for their tails so we could catch them, eating mint out of your moms garden and hanging out of your bedroom window getting fruit off the tree. Oh and that radio that glowed in the dark that I thought was a ghost. Even though you were a couple years older than me I can remember you playing with the tin soldiers on the front porch on a rainy day with me. I am so sorry we drifted and wish I had the chance today to tell you how much I really love you and your friendship. Thanks for our memories.

You've finally made it to the big CANDY STORE IN THE SKY...chatting & telling stories to your cousin Harry! Rest in Peace.

Phil was much more than our next door neighbor for over 8 years in Drexel Hill. He was a very good friend of our family. We enjoyed time together in a variety of ways. We had plenty of dinners together, many impromptu, at the end of a busy day working, he tending to his garden, and us simply doing required yardwork. Trips to the zoo and Winterthur Museum with our daughter Hope. But many of the best times were just chit-chatting on any given sunny day between our bushes and flowers. I have learned a valuable lesson this week to invite over a friend even if your home isn't quite right for doing so. Phil, May God Bless and let the perpetual light shine upon you. Your presence on this earth will be missed. With Love, Angel, Chris, and Hope Viviani

You were a great neighbor and friend. I would always hear your joyful laugh before seeing you. You are now laughing with GOD .I will miss you but hope to hear the rest of your stories when we meet again.
