I never met her because I wasn't born when she died, but I know she would be the best great-grandmother ever!

I wrote this poem for my Mother a few years back...

My Mom

What did I ever do...
To get a Mom like you...

Maybe some day I'll know...
But for now, I'm glad it's just so...

Fun & happiness always abound...
Whenever you're around...

You sew, cook, you can do it all...
You're smart, sharp & on the ball...

Dependable and reliable,
You're always there...
To give us all the best of care...

Always has alot of style...
My Mom beats the rest by a mile...

You're talented, generous and
Beautiful too...
And I pray that someday
I'll be just like you!...

I love you Mom, Claudia

I love you, Mom

Dear Brenda,
Do you remember when you turned 15 and I bought you your first roses because I thought it was important for a young girl to receive such things? Some might have misconstrued that gesture and thought I had a crush on you. That's not what it was about. Of course I love you like I love all of your family. But the truth is if I ever had a crush on one of the Bordo women, it would have been your mother.
I don't think there is anyone I've ever known who's name was more appropriate. I had the very good fortune to have known her for over 40 years and it was a treat to see her when I did.
Your mother was a true lady, dignified and proper in the best sense. But she could also laugh and enjoy the moment. Her cooking, which I was most fortunate to enjoy, was like her - delicious, warm and filling. She could make anyone glad they were in the room.
Your father (who I also always enjoyed) may have made a bigger wave, but your mother was always the steadying influence at the center. She was the definition of what makes a family good and strong. And I know for certain that each of you had your own special part of her heart and that she never ever stopped loving and caring about you for a single instant. If one needed to draw a picture of the perfect devoted mother, her face would instantly appear.
I loved your mother's company when I saw her because there was truly an angelic radiance about her. Her conversation was never about herself. It was always about you girls, her family or someone else's family. Because that's the thing I think she believed in most - FAMILY. What a fine example for you and your sisters.
Since I've know you all since we were all so young, I can say that you all having turned out so spectacularly is in largest part due to Rae. What a woman!
As I know how much I'll miss her, I can only imagine how it will feel for you. But I want you to know that there are many of us I'm sure who are also devastated but also know just how privileged we were to have her in our lives. May all the wonderful memories I'm sure you have, stay with you and help embrace you at this difficult time for you and your family. Your mother was much loved.

Dear Jane,
I went out for a run yesterday. It was early evening and when I was finished I sat alone, enjoying the peace of my surroundings. The sky was still light blue, with the moon high above, looking down. Off to my right the sun was beginning to set behind some scattered clouds. Streaks of pink were visible but what most caught my eye was the radiant, soft, bright orange glow.
And I thought...there is Rae, sitting on her golden chair with the other angels, looking down with all the beauty of her smile on us and wishing us well.
I know this must be so hard for you. But I'm sure you know how genuinely blessed you were to have such a mother. Hers was a loving heart, so big that it never ran out of room for a new addition.
It's no surprise that you all turned out so attractively since she was herself a beauty. But the truth is that hers was a beauty not limited to the exterior. The rare beauty that was Rae Bordo came from inside, where such a lovely soul resided. Kind, generous and open to all.
When the sorrow closes in, remember the joy of having such an angel for so long. And I hope you'll also remember that none of you are alone, you are surrounded by the love of many others. Your mother made sure of that.

Dear Monica,Lois,Jane,Claudia,and Brenda,
I was shocked and saddened last evening to hear of your Mom's passing. I know how your hearts are broken and I pray that memories of your Mom will help all of you through this very sad and difficult time. I loved your Mom as much as I loved my Mom. I have alot of wonderful memories of Rae, too. Shopping at KOP Mall, baking Christmas cookies, Blue and Blue Day @ CHA, amazing lunches at her home,(Rae made the best eggplant parmesan I ever tasted)and she was an amazing hostess. Rae always made me feel like one of her own, I will miss you Rae, I will miss your beautiful smile, I will miss your warm and loving caring ways,I will miss how you would call me Mommie, and I will miss your warm and tender hugs. I will truely miss you Rae. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. I am thinking and praying for all of you. May God hold you in His arms and comfort you.

There was no other sound in the world like her laugh -- it came from deep down and crackled in the air around her. Hearing her laugh, I laughed. For so many years and for so many countless reasons. I will cherish her loving and happy memory forever. Rosina

Bordo Sisters,
I greatly loved, admired and respected your Mother. She possessed the unique quality to make one feel special whenever he/she was in her presence. Oh yes, she loved her DAUGHTERS so much. The bond among Rae and her daughters was stronger than a gold chain. Just think, each of you share in her best qualities. With deep sympathy and love.

Lou and Rae shared their home and meals with me and I felt that I was part of the family. I remember that lou loved his duck tape and Rae loved to travel. I considered them to be my friends and not thier investment advisor. They are both sadly missed and one day I will meet up with them again along with my family members to say hello again. Aunt Rae was a beautiful person in every sense of word. She had the rare gift of making people feel loved and welcome wherever she happened to be. It was wonderful simply being in her presence.
The world will never quite seem the same without her....and I will truly miss her. Aunt Rae was so proud of her girls......hopefully, all of the happy memories that they have of their Mom will help to comfort them during this sad time.
With deep sympathy ......and lots of love,

It seems that Rae was here, then gone in a blink of an eye. Her memory, however, will live in my heart forever. Please know, that while we all know how much she loved each of her lovely daughters, she found room in her heart for many others. Rae was a remarkable woman. I'll miss her.
