Robert Botto Obituary

BOTTO
ROBERT. SAUSAGE KING "BIG BOB" spent 74 years doing it his way. He moved to the Swedesboro area in 1963 and purchased a small meat store. 40 years later his vision grew into a supermarket, catering facility and the Botto's Italian Line Restaurant. This was the beginning of the renewal of downtown Swedesboro. In 1964 he purchased the then defunct C.W. Brown and Co. and introduced the world to Botto's Sausage. The only thing larger than his business triumphs was his larger than life personality. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine; sons: Vincent, Robert Jr., Domenic and Enrico; sisters: Eleanor Azzari Barton and Elizabeth Spero; and grand-children: Robert, Vincent, Talia, Robert III, Sophia and Natalie. Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Tues. 6 to 9 P.M. and from 9 A.M. Wed. morning at St. Joseph's Church, 140 Broad St., Swedesboro where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Int. St. Joseph's Cem., Woolwich Twp. Donations to American Heart Assn., 1 Union St., Robbinsville, NJ 08691 will be appreciated.

Dear Catherine and the Botto Family,

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of Robert Botto.

When I would visit your restaurant with my family, he always made me smile when he would share wonderful memories of his life. He would say that he planned on writing a book about it someday.

My sincere sympathy and thoughts are with all of you.

To the Botto Family -
I was out of the state when I heard of "Uncle Bobby's" death and was so sorry to hear of the loss of such a vibrant man. He was always so kind to me when I visited your home with the Gulli's because of his card playing days with my grandfather. My sincerest sympathy and thoughts to all of you.

To the Botto Family:

Bobby was always a bigger than life character to me even before he was famous. He was friends with my father "Reds" and I remember him coming into my dads butcher shop (when he had another business). I was a kid then and(in the 1950's)and Bobby used to toss me up in the air and catch me like I was a rag doll. Later when I was playing baseball in South Philly, Bobby got me an invitation to the Houston Astros tryout camp as he knew the local scout. I ran into Bobby in the 1980's when I was doing real estate syndications and he was the same lovable person I had known all my life. He was one of my dad's favorite friends and I was hoping to see him at my Dad's funeral in July of 2006; I just didn't know he was sick. Bobby you will always have a special place in my heart.
God bless you.

Aunt Catherine,

We go back to the little apartment and lunches we had together when I worked at the bank!!! I have so many memories of him, I still remember the day that you had Henry, and he came back to the apartment, and said, Age, I have another son and he was born on my Birthday!!! He was so excited. It was very special for us to celebrate their birthdays together these last few years, he loved to cut the cake with Moose and Henry!!! Only the ones who new him the best, really NEW him!!! I know you will miss him very much, and there is going to be a VERY big void to be filled, which may never occur, but you have your sons to be with you, without question. Please know that I am here for you when ever for what ever. I love you very much.

My heartfelt condolences to the Botto family for the loss of such a great man. Bob was a special friend who will be sadly missed. I was fortunate to share his last evening at his restaurant with him sitting fireside at his favorite table. We enjoyed cigars, toasted a drink from the "blue bottle" and watched a movie together as he shared his life experiences with me and his love for his friends and family.
