Robert Brod M.D.

Brod Robert C., M.D. Nov. 29, 1930 – May 26, 2022 Robert C. Brod, M.D., 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Dr. Brod was born in New Rochelle, New York and attended Dartmouth College. He then graduated from the State University of New York Medical College summa cum laude. He was a cardiologist and practiced internal medicine at Riddle Hospital for over 50 years. He met the love of his life, Joan Mohr, while working at Badger Day Camp in Larchmont, NY during college summers. Once they had their first date, it was love at first sight and they were married for 64 years. Dr. Brod and his wife moved to Philadelphia to complete his medical education and then he was transferred to the U.S. Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He was discharged honorably from the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1963. After his military service, he moved back to the Philadelphia area and joined the Media Clinic, ultimately serving as Managing Partner. He was appointed to the faculty at Jefferson Medical College and was an attending physician at Jefferson Hospital as well as at Lankenau and Riddle. At Riddle he held various positions including Chief of the Medical Staff, Chief of Medicine and Cardiology and Director of the Intensive Care Unit. He was also President of the Riddle Foundation for many years and participated in the development of the Riddle Village complex. He also was a founder of Lima Geriatrics to provide medical care for Fair Acres, Delaware County's skilled medical facility. Dr. Brod also was an accomplished businessman. He developed and managed skilled nursing facilities, a hotel, and a manufacturing facility. He also served as a longtime President of the Delaware County Authority, developing bond issues for educational and healthcare institutions throughout the area. A lifelong antique car enthusiast, he had several volunteer leadership roles within car club organizations. He even spearheaded a capital campaign to construct a new car museum in Mechanicsburg, PA. Dr. Brod's favorite thing was to tour in his vintage automobile with Joan and his beloved group of friends throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Africa. He also loved playing competitive tennis and golf. He was pre-deceased by Joan in 2019. He is survived by four children, Karen Sica (Larry), Robert C. Brod Jr. (Cathy), Christopher Brod (Ron), and Lauren Breeze (Mike), as well as six grandchildren; Margot, Stephanie, Cassandra, Robert III, Alexandra and Chloe. Visitation will be held at the J. NELSON RIGBY FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Baltimore Avenue in Media, PA on Thursday, June 9 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Visitation and a subsequent Funeral Mass will be Friday, June 10 with Visitation from 9:15 – 10:15 A.M. and the Mass at 10:30 A.M. at Nativity BVM Church, 30 E. Franklin St., Media.
