Robert Furey Obituary

FUREY
DR ROBERT J., son of Dr. William and Mary E. Furey, died on July 25, 2005. He is the beloved husband of 51 years of Veronica ( Bonner), father of: Dr. Karen Liebert ( Dr. Hugh); Dr. Robert J. Furey, Jr. ( Jane); Susan Furey-Lloyd ( John); Maureen Furey Palo; Dr. William J.Furey ( Donna); Richard B. Furey ( Danielle); and Dyan Furey ( Patrick Bastian) Dr. Furey was the loving grandfather of 25 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Rastatter ( James). Dr. Furey attended Villanova University and PCOM ( Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine) graduating in 1952. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Furey's uncle, Dr. Charles Furey, came to practice in Wildwood in 1919, succeeded by his son, Dr. Joseph Furey, and followed by Dr. Robert Furey in 1953. In the course of his 39 years in practice in Wildwood Crest, Dr. Robert Furey served as President of the N.J. Osteopathic Association, and President of the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital Staff. He served on many boards, including the N.J. Heart Association and the Woodbine Colony. He was one of the original founders of the Crest Aquatic Club. Dr. Furey was an annual attendant of the Men of Malvern for over 65 years. He was also the school physician for the Crest Memorial School for 18 years. He was a Marine veteran of World War II. Family and friends are welcome to come to the viewing at The Church of the Assumption, 7200 Seaview Ave., Wildwood Crest, N.J. on Friday, July 29, 2005 from 10:00 -11:30AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 11:30AM. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery following the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. William Furey Memorial Group at Malvern Retreat House, PO Box 315, Malvern, Pa. 19355. Arrangements by INGERSOLL-GREENWOOD N. Wildwood, N.J.
