SAMUEL LEHRER Obituary

LEHRER JUDGE SAMUEL M. (RET.) On December 25, 2024, Judge Samuel M. Lehrer passed away peacefully with family at his side at the age of 95. Judge Lehrer was born in 1929 to Joseph and Bessie Lehrer in Altoona, Pa. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, he served in the U.S. Army for four years and returned to Philadelphia to earn a law degree (JD) from Penn. He served on the Municipal Court of Philadelphia from 1974 to 1980 and on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas from 1980 to 1999. He was also of counsel at the law firm of Dilworth Paxson LLP from 1999 to 2019. The judge was a proud longtime member of the Union League of Philadelphia. He was the beloved husband of Mary (nee O'Shea) Lehrer who predeceased him in 2023. Judge Lehrer was predeceased by his brothers Lewis (Eleanor) and Roy (Shirley), and sisters Ruth (Allen) Sommers and Bebe (Erwin) Markman. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Anna Brown, loving nieces and nephews, and their children. A private graveside service was held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. Sam was a fine man. He took me under his wing when I worked at the Preservation Alliance and taught me about the law and historic preservation. He was kind, thoughtful, gracious, patient with me, and a constant source of support. I was honored to have him as a friend.
