Stephen had a big heart, a good kind spirit and a great sense of humor. He will always be remembered for his love of his family, friends, trees and playing the harmonica. I think for Stephen it wasn't about who loved him but how he got to love without judgement. As much as he drove me crazy when we were kids, I will never forget all the good times and laughter. That contagious laugh. He was a great son, brother, uncle and friend and we will all miss him very much.

He was a great man who cared about people and his surroundings - he was very knowledgable about any sort of plant or flower to ever come about.. He shared wisdom and humor with all. He will definitely be missed. He cared enough to be there for my family when no one else was.

I remember how his quiet, authority about botany and conservation made me realize what a gentle, caring and honest person he was.

Steve was a true original. He would talk to anyone anywhere at anytime. He was an idealist and tried to bring people together through his music and his superior horticultural knowledge. He was a great friend and will be missed.
