THOMAS MEERS Obituary

MEERS

THOMAS MICHAEL, SR., 72, of Galena MD, formerly of Phila-delphia PA and Oreland PA, died June 20, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Meers was born on Dec. 24, 1940 in Philadelphia, son of the late Millard T. Meers and Catherine Wyshywaniuk Meers. He was employed by PECO for 33 years as a troubleshooter lineman.
He was an avid reader, historian, and craftsman. He enjoyed researching and restor-ing Hot Rods and sailboats.
Discovering the Sassafras River and Chesapeake Bay in 1974, Tom was able to make his dreams of restoring Hot Rods and Sailboats in the "Center of the Universe" a reality. He was also able to make his life long dream come true; cruising the Islands and making his home on the Sassafras River on the East-ern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay with his wife, Joyce.
He was a member and past President of the Philadelphia Modifiers Street Rod Club, a member of American Schooners Association, and International Thunderbird Club. He won numerous prestigious awards from these associations.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce M. Meers; 4 children, Thomas Michael Meers, Jr. (Linda) of Oreland PA, Holly Meers Shields (Robert) of North Wales PA, Cheryl Murphy (Kevin) of Philadelphia PA, and Francis Mulhern (Beth) of Philadelphia PA; a brother, Stephen Meers (Barbara) of Jupiter FL; 8 grandchildren, Thomas M. Meers, Audrey Shields, Grace Shields, Joel Stilwell, Zach Schumacher, Kasey Mulhern, Matthew Mulhern, and Maggie Mulhern.
A Memorial will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 2 to 3 P.M., at his residence, followed by a Celebration of his Life. Hot Rods are Welcome. Casual attire is recommended.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Tom and Holly,
I was so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I know you have been through this before and it is never easy. Just keep in mind that he was very proud of you both and the relationship you both had with him was a good one. He went peacefully with his children by his side. Just remember all the good times and that will get you through.

Love,
Aunt Deb

I said a prayer for your Dad today. I didn't know him although our paths may have crossed a few times. I too share a love of the Sassafras River, the Still Pond and many other places along the Sassafras including the very small town of Galena. I spent many happy times in that bucolic place where time stood still when the boat was running.
