THOMAS G.
Age 79, born in Cleveland OH, died on July 1, 2018. He received a BA and MA from Columbia University and a D.Phil. from Lincoln College, University of Oxford. Tom was a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a distinguished medieval scholar. He specialized in 12th Century France, in particular on the Abbey of St. Denis in Paris and its abbot, Suger. He served for many years as an associate professor in the History Department of the University of Pennsylvania, until his retirement in 2007, and afterwards as a visiting scholar, teaching courses in medieval history. He was the longtime Director of Corporate and Foundation relations in the School of the Arts and Sciences at Penn. Tom was a co-founder of the Delaware Valley Medieval Association and helped secure a grant from the Lily Foundation that enabled it to flourish.
Tom is survived by his adored brother, Ronald and sister-in-law, Lee; his 2 beloved nieces, Elizabeth Haspiel (Joseph) and Margot Waldman (Tim Lemmon) and 5 much loved grandnieces and nephews, Sarah Novack, Jacob Haspiel, Giles, George and Giselle Lemmon.
A Memorial Service will be held on September 22 at Noon at the Church of St Luke and the Epiphany in Philadelphia.

Tom was a fine gentleman who cared for for everyone who he met. Tom was my friend for over twenty years, and I will miss him so much. He lived life to the fullest a day at a time. I will never forget Tom, he lived a happy life drawing that happiness from within, he was truly a great man now in heaven that will be missed by so many here on earth.
