My sincere sympathies to Wally's family and loved ones. I just found out about his passing on Sunday, February 5th, 2017. Oddly enough w/ some of the old gang (Joe Farrell & Albert Pullitti) that had made Waldo's our second home for many, many years from the 80's into the 90's. Lots of fun memories from Eagles games, to parties on the Chinese junk boat, Academy awards & Derby day parties and some of the best New Years parties ever. All the bartenders' Kelly, Jimmy, Ralph, Kenny who made the place so welcoming. Wally and Adrienne were always the best! Some of the most fun times of my life were at Waldo's and it will always hold a special place in my heart. So very sorry for your loss.

Wally Gone? Hard to believe that such a Powerful Presence could Ever go...My Dad Knew His Dad, in Brewerytown, and since both their Grandfathers were Christian Hertler, (and well I would think Barbara was Great Grandmother). Both being Hertlers'~they bonded, Oddly my Dad was a Welder, I wonder where Wally learned how to weld? It also seems Odd that Wally and I should ~as well "connect" with Wally Years later at the Victory Club~ then find out that we shared the same Great Zest for Life and Wicked sense of Humor... Wal had an Infectious way about him, persuasive, daring, troublemaker, Funloving, crazy in driving (like me) we had a Lot in common. His Humor and Wit, Larger than Life Personality, sense of style, classy, chic, and Just fashionable at all times! Great Ideas come from great people...and he was one of the Best! Really excelled at doing things 'His way'....not following the Norm. I learned that he would frequent other Bars when at Waldos, and I asked him, why do that if you Own a bar, and Here was the Answer Mr. Slick Gave me! " You have to go around to see what the Competition is doing, in order to see what draws in the Business!" ~I was Blown away at his Savvy Intellect! We met in a weird way, but Fate brought us two Hertlers together~just as it did Our 2 Fathers on Girard at Hertlers Pub!...Life gets stranger and stranger! My life was enriched by having known him, learning from him, and just laughing with Him! I am glad he met Adrienne, his soulmate, who enriched his life, and gave him his lovely daughter, Adrienne. She reminds me of him...I sense his being in her ways. I am happy to have called him a pal, and Cuz, (even tho we knew not How we were related) but we felt we were both the black sheep of the families, and we bonded...My sincere condolences to Both his wife, and daughter, may you cherish all the Good times, and hold them near to your heart. He is Still with you and watching over you, for that is his job. I believe that the spirit stays close to those in need until they feel that it is ok to move forward. You Both are Blessed! He will always be my cuz, and he will always watch over All of his friends, and Family. My condolences to you all! Most Sincerely yours, Teresa Marie Hertler. ([email protected])

Adrienne,
My brother, Skip, and Wally were best friends throughout their young lives. They had so many adventures riding their bikes all over Folcroft and Delaware County, both into sports, then going to proms with their dates ...always laughing and carrying on. We all called him "Hertler".. Skip died when they were 21. I hope they're together again getting into trouble! Suzy Davis

My heart is heavy today as I wish that I could be present for the memories shared by those who loved Walter. He is "Walter" to me because he always showed up announcing "Walter R. Hertler here!".
I trust that Adrienne & Adrienne will find comfort in all that Walter brought to so many.
He enriched my young life with hysterical laughter wherever he happened to show up - the Acme at 15th & Spruce, Wanamaker's, Somers Point Diner, some ridiculous Denny's on Market - mundane places with special memories because Walter was there.
I will always be grateful that I encountered this Metlife insurance salesman walking his Doberman on 15th St - he managed to sell life insurance to 20-21 years old nurses.
It required a special brilliance and courage to bring so much humor into our lives.
I loved how Walter made me laugh.
I was fortunate to know him.

Rest in peace old buddy
We all remember all of the old Sharon Hill days up at the Owl Hoagie Shop, school dances, football games
Some of us can't attend your services to celebrate your life
But even though we haven't seen each other over the years your name has come up many many times and all with a smile on our faces...

Dear Adrienne and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Knowing Wally had a major influence on my life for without him I wouldn't have met my husband Bob. I have so many fond memories of Wally, he could really make me laugh. He will surely be missed. My only consolation is knowing that Wally and Bob are now hanging out together...that thought makes me smile. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences to your whole family.
