WILLIAM ALPERN Obituary
WILLIAM "BILLY", of Philadel-phia, passed away on December 12, 2012, at the age of 94, after losing his beloved wife of 71 years, Grace, last month.
Billy is survived by his 3 children, Barbara, Richard and Jeffrey Alpern; loving daughters- in-law, Marybeth and Molly; and grandchildren, Max, Sam, Zachary, Nikki, Madison, Colm and Daniel.
Billy was a kind and generous friend to many and his warm sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He was a Lieutenant in the US Army during World War II, and spent most of his civilian life working in the jewelry business – first as Vice President of the Bulova Watch Company and then as Assistant to the President of Citizen Watches.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Celebration of Billy's life Friday, December 14, at 1 P.M., at Roosevelt Memorial Park (Trevose). The family welcomes friends and relatives back to the residence at The Philadelphian. In lieu of flowers, please send contribu-tions to the American Diabetes Association, or any charity of your choice.

Joyce and Amy Fried

Dear Barbara, Richard, and Jeffrey,
On behalf of my mother, Joyce Fried, a very old Long Beach friend of your father, Billy and Grace, and myself, please accept our sadness at your loss. Joyce spoke to Billy shortly after your mother died and they were commiserating that they were the only ones left from their old Long Beach crowd. So Joyce felt very sad to hear about Billy's passing, telling me that she is now the only one left. I remember when Billy used to come visit my parents, Joyce and Ed Fried, in Kensington, Maryland. He always brought laughter with him.
My mother would very much like to send you a note herself but we don't have your address. If you could Joyce your address, that would be much appreciated. Her address is Joyce Fried, 8100 Connecticut Avenue, Apt. 904, Chevy Chase, MD, 20815. Like Billy, she's pretty weak, in a wheelchair most of the time, but her mind is quite clear.
