Devin Smith

1976 - 2022

Devin Carlyle Smith (April 9th, 1976 to September 29th, 2022), passed away at the age of 46. He is survived by his Mother Marjorie Smith and his loving family including great aunts, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends.

Devin was born in Brooklyn, New York. Although an only child, he was doted on by his grandparents Frank and Margaret Manning and his 7 aunts and uncles that made up the Manning Family.

During his early teens, he moved to Woodbridge, Virginia to live with the Charles family with the support of his loving mother. He enrolled in Potomac Senior High School and there his creativity was nurtured; engaging in creative writing, pottery making, and even acting in school plays. After his timely graduation, he enrolled in the United States Army in October 1994, a formative decision that would take him abroad to England. Devin was a Noncommissioned Officer and worked as an Electronic Intelligence Analyst until December 2001. When he returned states-side he continued his service in the Army Reserves until March of 2003. Devin returned to Northern Virginia to start his civilian life, where he would work in the IT security field and eventually make his home in Fairfax, VA.

Devin's passion was always for words. He was an unpublished writer of short stories, poems, and still working on his novel until his death. Devin both appreciated viewing art and making art; later in life his preferred medium was street photography. His portfolio included photographs in Istanbul, Havana, NYC, and the District of Columbia. Other meditative pursuits included an avid running life, intermittent cycling, and daily yoga. Devin's self-education included the pursuit of polyglotism, learning Spanish and German. Plus, studying botany and the care of exotic plants in the same vein as his mother.

Devin's life philosophy was stoicism with Christian spiritual foundation.

Devin in life was BEAUTIFUL- LOVING- INTELLIGENT- MAGNETIC - ELEGANT- and ENERGETIC. However, in his later years he battled with depression, and he succumbed to his mental health.

Devin, like one of his many novel characters, "...he was special not because of any superpower but just because of who he was and his ability to connect with others despite his failure to realize what was special about himself when he was still alive."
