Donald Carroll

1933 - 2023

Donald Carroll, 90, passed away at his home in Hickory, NC on December 8th.

He is survived by his family: sons Edward Carroll and wife Kelley of Hickory, NC and James Carroll of Castleton, VA; three grandchildren, Michelle Hefner and husband Logan of Newton NC, Stephen Carroll and wife Alyssa of Winston Salem NC and Phillip Carroll and wife Lizzy also of Winston Salem; and three great grandchildren Jackson Hefner and Josie and Nora Carroll.

Don was born on February 6, 1933, in Salem, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Helen Rose Carroll.

Don was an electrician by trade and lived in Peabody, Ma. before moving his family to Rappahannock County, VA, in 1972 where he co-owned a local business. Don lived in Sperryville until moving to NC in 2022 to live with his son and daughter-in-law.

In 1951 Don joined the Navy and proudly served in the Korean War on the USS Mercury (AK-42). He was honorably discharged in 1953.

He was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast including deer hunting, baseball, and golf. During his last few years living in Va., Don was a member of the Rappahannock Senior Center where he enjoyed spending time with his friends.

Don had a quick wit and sense of humor that would make us all smile. He counted his blessings daily and was grateful for a well-lived life.
