John Jenkins Obituary

John L. Jenkins III, lovingly known as "Joey" to his family and friends, passed from this life on October 8, 2025, at the age of 69.

Born on December 22, 1955, Joey was the beloved son of the late John L. Jenkins Jr. and Josephine Mae Jenkins. He was raised in Sperryville, Virginia, where he developed a lifelong love for the mountains and the great outdoors. Whether it was trout fishing in quiet streams, hunting in the hills, or camping under the stars, Joey felt most at home in nature.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and could be found enjoying nearly any game, but his greatest passion was for baseball. He was known as a gentle giant-kind, down-to-earth, and always quick with a warm smile or a well-timed joke. Joey had a natural gift for connecting with people and made friends everywhere he went.

One of Joey's many talents was cooking. He learned by his mother's side and carried on her legacy in the kitchen with love and skill. His meals brought people together and were always served with a generous helping of good humor and conversation.

Joey worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation where he was a traffic light engineer. He retired from the job he loved in 2018.

Joey was preceded in death by his parents, John L. Jenkins Jr and Josephine Mae Jenkins; his brother, Jerry Lee Jenkins; and his sister, Patricia "Pat" Jenkins-Ross.

He is survived by his devoted sister, Joyce M. Lillard and her husband, Rickey; and his brothers, Roger L. Jenkins and his wife, Janie M. Jenkins, and Kenneth B. Jenkins (Kenny). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.

A funeral service will be held at Found and Sons Funeral Home, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 with Pastor Jim Williams officiating. The family will receive friends and loved ones two hours prior to the service.
