John Stec Obituary

John Stec passed away at the age of 74 on June 9, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father Anthony Stec, mother, Lena Stec, his brother Anthony (Butchy), and his sister, Carol.

He is survived by his wife Virginia (Ginny) Stec, his daughter Cathy Renfrow and her husband Grant Renfrow, his daughter Ginny Holland and her husband Joel Holland, his grand children Brenden Holland, Brady Holland, Brooke Renfrow, Brenna Holland, Brett Renfrow, his great grand-daughter Bella Holland, his brother Charlie Stec, sister Joanne Salas, and many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also included are the many friends he treated as family. His family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors were all very special to John.

John was born on April 22, 1950 in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He joined the Army and served his beloved country for 23 years. He loved his time at Fort Devens, Massachusetts where he was part of the 10th Special Forces Group Airborne-he was proud to be a Green Beret. His military career brought him and his family to Virginia where he was assigned to the Support Directorate of a special missions unit. While still serving in the Army, John started working for DEA as a military liaison. He stayed with DEA after his retirement and worked there for 23 years as well. John loved every minute of his years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, going to yard sales, getting a bargain, and volunteering at the Army Museum.

The family will receive visitors from 4-7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192, where a service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

While John and I both volunteered at the Army Museum, we did not see each other on a regular basis. But when we did cross paths, John was always there with a smile and a big "Hello." He was a friendly guy and always fun to talk to. I'm going to miss those discussions. My sincerest condolences to Ginny and all of John's family and friends.

John & his wife Ginny with their two daughters lived the American Dream. When U stayed with them for the summers, it was all around love & fun and for their dogs. Kids were happy and safe. John was so funny, always telling jokes & making people laugh. I was lucky to call him Uncle. I'll continue to miss, remember & love him with so many others. Thank you for your example.

John was a pleasure speaking with during our volunteer sessions at the NMUSA. We exchanged ideas and thoughts about cruising, and where we had been, and what we did, and where we were going next. You were one of the good guys John. My deepest condolences to your family.
