Mary Elizabeth Curtis

1927 - 2024

Mary Elizabeth Curtis passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on May 29, 2024. She was born in Washington, DC on Oct. 17, 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Thomas Timmons, husband, Walter Jackson Curtis, son, William Jackson Curtis, sisters, Betty Lockridge and Nora Mason and brother, Bill Timmons. She is survived by her son, Robert Walter Curtis and wife, Sandy of Tulsa, OK, sister, Sandra Kay Todd of Raleigh, NC, grandson, Joshua Deane Curtis and wife, Jessica, great grandchildren Thomas and Gregory of Linden, NC, and granddaughter, Tiffany Deane Curtis and great grandchildren Gabriel and Bella of Tulsa, OK as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mary was a loving wife of 58 years. She and Jack lived in Maryland and Virginia for many years where Mary worked at Canteen, State Farm Insurance and University of Virginia Hall before moving to Flint Hill, Va. in 1969. She worked as a Postal Clerk before becoming Postmaster in Flint Hill where she served for 14 years with a smile for everyone. She followed Mabel Lillard as Postmaster. Mabel and Carson Lillard were best friends with Mary and Jack and lived on "the hill" beside each other on Post Office Lane.

While living in Flint Hill for 30 years, Mary was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Flint Hill Fire Dept. She and Jack joined Flint Hill United Methodist Church in 1975 where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Ladies Bible study, Flint Hill Missionary Society, and the Church Council. Mary was always providing meals for the sick, and those who had lost loved ones. Mary met with friends for crocheting and needlepoint, Bridge Club, and golfing. She and Jack loved traveling together throughout the states in their RV, and made regular trips to OK to see their grandchildren.

For the past eighteen years, Mary has lived in Tulsa, OK where she was very involved with family enjoying meals, outings, going to church and all holidays. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her faith was strong and she attended First Presbyterian church while in Tulsa for as long as she was able to go. Mary's life showed her love for the Lord and devotion to family. The family appreciates the care and love Mary received from First Presbyterian Church, the staff at Montereau and Grace Hospice.

A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for the life of Mary will be held at Flint Hill United Methodist Church on July 2, 2024 at 11:00 am. Graveside service will follow immediately with a reception at the Flint Hill Fire Station. Memorial gifts in gratitude for Mary's life may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or Flint Hill United Methodist Church.
