William Russell Dixon Jr. (Bill) born 11 Dec 1941 in Camden, New Jersey to William Russell Dixon and Anna Allen Dixon. Bill to Lancaster, PA at the age of 2 and lived there until he left for college. He attended Juniata College for 2 years. He then joined the US Army and served in several areas including Korea. While in the Army he was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After leaving his 3 years in the Army he was called to serve a mission in the Bavaria / South German mission where he served faithfully. After his mission he studied at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT where he dated Carol Lee McArthur and was later sealed to her in the Los Angeles Temple on 22 July 1967. Bill graduated from BYU with a BS and a Masters degree in Chemistry which he later used to get employed at the United States Patent and Trademark Office where he worked for over 35 years. Bill and Carol moved to Dale City, VA with the 4 older children and had 5 other children in the following years. They enjoyed 40+ years in the Dale City area. They also enjoyed traveling the world on many vacations. They traveled to Europe and the Caribbean many times. As well as traveling to China and Asia. Bill and Carol served faithfully in the Washington D.C. temple for many years and was only released from that duty when the temple closed last month. He was also fortunate to serve a LDS Service mission with Carol to Salt Lake City serving in the Church History Department. He is survived by his wife Carol with with whom they just celebrated their 50 year anniversary. His brother Richard (Pat). His eight children and 24 grandchildren; Russell Allen (Emily) 2 grand kids, Kent Laurence (Betsy) 3 grand kids, Danette Elaine Foster (Kenny) 5 grand kids, Pamela Ann Dixon, Leland Ernest (Anne) 2 grand kids, Eric William (Jenni) 5 rand kids, Tammy Meredith Gallahan (Ken) 4 grand kids, Linda Mae Barton (Michael) 3 grand kids, Bill is preceded in death by his parents William, Anna, his sister Joanne, his daughter Robyn and two grandchildren. We wish to express thanks to the many nurses and doctors at Sentara Potomac Hospital.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made in his name to the
American Diabetes Association or the
American Heart Association.
A viewing is scheduled for Friday March 16, 2018 at from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home at 4143 Dale Blvd, Dale City, VA. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday March 17, 2018 at the LDS Chapel at 3000 Dale Blvd, Dale City, VA at 10:00 AM. Internment will be at Fairfax Memorial Park 9900 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA, 22032 at 1:00 PM.
