Michael Carrington Obituary
Michael Kenneth Carrington, 84, of Big Pine, California, passed away peacefully at his home on October 9, 2025, with his loving wife, Paula by his side.
Born on March 27, 1941, in Los Angeles, California, to Woody and Hazel Carrington, Mike lived a full and meaningful life devoted to family, community, and service.
In 1963, Mike began his career with the State of California, Division of Highways – later known as Caltrans – where he worked as a civil engineer until his retirement in 2001. His dedication to public service extended beyond his professional career; he proudly served as a Board of Fire Commissioners member for the Big Pine Fire Protection District for 24 years. Mike was also a Free and Accepted Mason for more than 50 years, reflecting his lifelong commitment to integrity, brotherhood, and community involvement.
In 1967, Mike married the love of his life, Paula, and together they shared 58 wonderful years. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Damon and Derek, who, along with their families, were the pride and joy of his life.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Paula; sons Damon (wife Wendy) Carrington and Derek (wife Denelle) Carrington; grandchildren Ryan (wife Marisa) Carrington, Alysha Sauer (husband Tyler), Colton (wife Katy) Carrington, and CJ Carrington; and his beloved great-grandchildren Barrett and Jaxson, whom he loved dearly.
Mike, lovingly known as Papa, loved his four grandchildren beyond measure (Colton, Ryan, Alysha and CJ)
He is also survived by his brother Robert (wife Teresa) Lay, and sisters Mary Lou (husband Steve) Cobbett, Patty (husband Rick) Holaday, and Betsy (husband Steve) Young, brother-in-law Matt (wife Sue) Kelly, Sister-in-law Cyn Moody along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was proceeded in death by his parents, Hazel and Woodrow "Woody" Carrington, step-mother Janie Carrington and his sister, Peggy Feigner.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on October 25th, 2025, at East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop, California. A celebration of life will follow at Calvary Baptist Church on West Line Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Big Pine Fire Department P.O. Box 382 Big Pine CA 93513, honoring Mike's many years of service and dedication to his community.
Mike will be remembered for his steady kindness, his love of family, and his lifelong dedication to helping others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
