C. Brite Obituary

C. Elaine Brite, 88, passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones in Harrisville on July 1, 2014.
She was born Charlotte Elaine Hunt on Jan. 10, 1926 in Adrian, daughter of Dorothy Thompson Hunt and Ralph Robert Hunt. Elaine lived in Ypsilanti for most of her life before moving to East Tawas in 2010 and Harrisville in 2013. She graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1943.
On May 15, 1949 Elaine married James Nelson Boik (deceased). She is survived by their daughter, Michele (Eric) Rickelmann (nee Boik) of Harrisville and son Greg (Diann) Boik of Mikado. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Marni Rickelmann, Clint (Darah) Rickelmann, Travis Boik, Callie Boik, and Cassandra Boik, as well as one great-grandson, Sawyer Rickelmann.
On June 21, 1973, Elaine married William King Brite (deceased) and is survived by Susan (James) Carson, Linda Gilbert, and their children and grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother Robert (Beverly) Hunt and nephews Dirk (Chantal) Hunt and Eric Hunt and their children.
Elaine earned her bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1949 and her Masters Degree in Special Education as well as her vocational endorsement in 1969. She taught home economics in Willow Run Public Schools (1961-64) and both Ann Arbor Pioneer High School and Ann Arbor Huron High School from 1964-93, being named Michigan Home Economics Teacher of the Year in 1985.
Elaine was a past member of the Ypsilanti branch of the Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma International. Her favorite pastimes included summers at the beach on Lake Huron in Oscoda, playing in her bridge groups, and spending time laughing with her friends and family, all of whom will miss her wonderful smile. Her love of animals was always paramount in her life. She was a selfless and intelligent woman who lived for her family and friends. She made all of her 88 years count by being a woman who lived life to its fullest and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at Stark Funeral Home in Ypsilanti on Thursday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the service immediately following.
