Edna Leona Bender

Edna Leona Bender of Tawas City, formerly of Baldwin Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 at Tendercare of Tawas City Health and Rehab Center, age 104.
Edna was born on March 6, 1912 in Wilber Township to John and Stella (Hederich) Grenke. She was raised on her family farm in Iosco County where she learned early about hard work and found a passion for gardening. Edna was an active outdoorswoman and she truly enjoyed hunting and fishing in particular, not just as a sport, but to help keep her family fed.
She stayed at home during her working years to take care of her children and household chores. She also enjoyed making patchwork quilts. Edna is a former member of White Shrine Eastern Star where she even held the title of Worthy High Priestess at one time. She was a very active parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas for many years and she will always be remembered for the numerous times she would bring much of her garden harvest to church and share it with others.
Edna is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Ken Krumm of Tawas City; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and most recently, a great-great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bender; her siblings; a granddaughter, and her parents.
Her family will welcome friends for visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. A Rosary service will be prayed at the funeral home Tuesday at 7 p.m. Her funeral mass will be on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Her family will welcome friends at the church Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass. Interment will take place in Wilber Township Cemetery.
