Janet Yvette (Gawel) DeWyse of East Tawas went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, age 83.
Jan was born on Oct. 10, 1942 in Detroit to Edward and Marcella (Machulis) Gawel. Jan was a Christian child of God, a devout member of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas and she studied the Holy Bible at Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tawas City for the past six years with her husband, Randy, and their children. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19; Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
She married Randall J. DeWyse in the summer of 1966 and together they enjoyed almost 60 years of Christian marriage. Jan and Randy started their life together in Ypsilanti, and then moved to East Tawas in 1971 where they bought a home and raised their two boys.
Jan began her 45-year career as a hair stylist working at her first shop in Oscoda called Jantoinette's. Later she moved her business to her home shop in East Tawas called Jan's Style Parlor, where she faithfully and lovingly cut and styled hair and nails for hundreds of family and dear friends.
In her childhood and teen years, she was raised on a family farm in Twining and was a professional harmony singer with her three sisters, Toni Verde, Kathy Wegner and Marci Ferguson; formally known as the "Gawel Sisters." They were blessed with great talent and even recorded music at Detroit's legendary Motown Music Hall!
Jan enjoyed many activities in her life such as rifle and bow whitetail deer hunting at their 40-acre family camp in Wilber Township; winters with family and friends in Ft. Myers Beach, Fla.; fishing, jogging, hiking, stump-jumping in the Jeep, participating in the "Triatha-Like-It" with her girl friends, monthly girls-club get togethers with her special friends, U.P. adventures to Lake Superior and sailing and boating on Tawas Bay with her family and friends.
Jan was also honored to be crowned Tawas Perchville Queen in 1988, along with her father-in-law, Jim DeWyse as King!
