Joanne Hintz Obituary

Joanne Hintz, long time resident of East Tawas, formerly of Bay City, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, age 86 years.
Joanne was born in Detroit in 1930, to Alfred and Mary "Phyllis" (Morand) Morin. Joanne made a career out of making other people happy, especially her family whom she adored. Up until her recent illness she volunteered for the Tawas FISH, Inc. and Red Cross blood drives.
She was an avid fan of antiques and garage sales. Joanne parlayed her hobby into being one of the original members of Uncle Winnie's antiques store. She had an eye for value both in material goods as well as people. She was an enthusiastic woman who loved the outdoors. You could often find her jogging, cross-country skiing, metal detecting or playing tennis. Back in the day she was a member of the Tawas Area Tennis Association (TATA for short, which we loved to tease her about) as well the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan and the Red Cross swimming programs.
It's hard to imagine she had time to raise six kids. In recent years she was better known as, "Grandma by the Beach," and she relished in the grandchildren visiting her and getting sand everywhere in the house – even if the parents didn't.
Joanne is survived by her six loving children, Kathy (Doug) Orton of Brighton, Barb (Dave) Curtis of Brighton, James Hintz of Owosso, Mark (Dana) Hintz of Sarasota, Fla., Judy (Mark) Timreck of East Tawas and Matthew (Christine) Hintz of Cary, Ill.; brother, Bill (Judy) Morin; 12 grandchildren, Theresa Orton, Jennifer Dow, David and Nickolas Curtis, Marina and Sierra Hintz, Gretchen Mitchell-Metcalf, Kristina, Joseph (Kara) and Michael Timreck, and Renee and Jason Hintz; also nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leonard "Jim" Hintz, also formerly of Bay City; brother, John "Jack" Morin; sister, Rosemary Todd; grandson, Christopher Orton; great grandson, Andrew "AJ" Tinch.
Per her wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas. Joanne's family will welcome friends and family at the church from 10 a.m. until the mass at 11 a.m.
Those wishing to express their condolences are encouraged to consider a memorial donation to Tawas Area Education Foundation, P.O. Box 81, East Tawas, MI 48730, TawasAreaEducationFoundation.weebly.com, or the Hospital Hospitality McNally House of Saginaw, 1701 North Michigan, Saginaw, MI 48602. Dear Family, I was so saddened to hear of Joanne's passing. She was a "ball of fire" when it came to planning and getting volutneer jobs done. Tawas Hospital was blessed to have her. I enjoyed my time with Joanne many years ago when Iworked with her in the Volunteer program a Taws. God's blessing and comfort to her loved ones. Joanne lived a full life and there are more rewards awaiting her. She was good friends with my mother, Carole Lauderbach Shawl and I enjoyed visiting her in East Tawas and playing with Judy. God bless Joanne and the whole family.
