Joseph Wrona Obituary

Joseph Wrona, 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Aug. 23, 2024. A proud Navy veteran, Joe served aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970, a short period of his life that left a lasting impact.
Joe was born on Oct. 24, 1949, in Hamtramck, to Joseph and Irene Wrona. He graduated in 1968 from St. Andrews High School in Detroit, where he met Jackie, the love of his life. Shortly after graduation, Joe joined the Navy and served his country with honor.
After his military service, Joe continued to serve his community by joining the Police Academy. He began his career with the Detroit Police Department from 1970 to 1975. Following the birth of his children, Joseph and Kelly, Joe moved his family to Oscoda, where he proudly served as a police officer and later as a Police Sergeant until his retirement in 2000. Affectionately known by the kids of Oscoda as "Officer Fro-na" and "Joe Fro," Joe was known for his understanding, often offering a gentle hand to people when they needed it the most.
Joe loved his family and spent his happiest moments with his beloved wife, Jackie, his children, and grandchildren. Surprisingly, his four cats also held a special place in his heart, bringing him much joy in his later years.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Wrona (née Sawczuk) and Joseph Wrona; and his sister, Lori Adams. He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie; his children, Joseph Wrona and Kelly Jones (Greg); his grandchildren, Chloe, Michael, Nina, and Jordan; and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Ziobro.
Funeral services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Iosco County Humane Society at https://cuddly.com/shelter/82876/Iosco-County-Humane-Society. You may offer condolences at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
