Lenore Weinkauff Obituary

Lenore Ida Weinkauff, 97, from Tawas City, passed away peacefully on Sept. 18, 2024, just 11 days before her 98th birthday, in McBain.
Lenore was born on Sept. 29, 1926 to Fred Weinkauff and Edna (Lambert) Weinkauff in Detroit. She graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit and went on to become a bookkeeper for Iroquois Tool and Die in Warren. She worked there until her retirement in 1984.
In retirement Lenore and her brother, Melvin Weinkauff, enjoyed traveling around the country in their motorhome, especially going out west to visit family and friends. In her younger years, Lenore also enjoyed bowling in co-ed bowling leagues with family and friends. She also was an avid reader, Nora Roberts romance novels were her favorite in her later years.
Lenore especially loved animals, dogs in particular. Her beloved Mindy, a feisty poodle/schnauzer mix who just passed away on Sept. 6 at age 21, was Lennore's faithful companion for the past 16 years. They were inseparable, as they were only apart for a mere two weeks and now together again!
Lenore was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Edna (Lambert) Weinkauff; half brother, Norman (Wally) Walter Lambert; sister-in-law, Rosemary (Ruttner) Zirbel; half sister, Helen (Zirbel) Urbany; brother-in-law, Donald Urbany; brother, Melvin Weinkauff; and her twin sister, Eleanore Weinkauff, who passed away in 1939. She is also predeceased by many of her dear family and friends.
She leaves behind nephew, Thomas Zirbel and Merilyn Kay (Molyneaux) Zirbel; niece, Julie Zirbel; nephew, Curtis Zirbel and Sheryl Lynn (Runyon) Zirbel and their children, Holly, Kyle and Sean; and nephews, Dennis and Kevin Urbany. She also leaves behind many distant cousins including Kay (VanDeKerkhove) Jones and her husband Tim Jones.
Lenore's service, a celebration of life, will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, on what would have been her 98th birthday! Visitation will begin at noon with the service, a celebration of life, to follow at 1 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home, 416 Whittemore St. Tawas City.
