Marion Calverley Obituary

Marion Elizabeth Calverley (MacDonald) was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and the proud matriarch of a large family. She passed away on Sept. 14, 2025
She raised seven children and loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother, cherishing every visit, photo, and moment spent with them.
She was blessed with lifelong friendships, as well as many new ones made over the past eight years while living at Hale Creek Manor. She loved playing cards of any kind, dominoes, board games, and crossword puzzles. Reading the Free Press was part of her daily ritual. She especially loved Loon Lake, where she had a lifetime of great memories with family.
She also enjoyed golf and was proud to have scored a hole-in-one. A true Detroit Lions fan long before it was fashionable, she would have been delighted to know that the Lions won on the very day she passed – a fitting "hats off" to her.
Marion lived for many years in Royal Oak and moved to Hale in 2018. She was born Sept. 8, 1930 to William Gordon and Helen (Stark) MacDonald.
She was preceded in death by Richard, her husband of 63 years; son, Richard Michael; granddaughter, Katrina; daughter-in-law, Mary (Pete); her parents; and siblings, John (Jack) and Margaret (Johnston).
She is survived by sons, Thomas (April), Peter (Mary), Paul (Suzy) and James (Sue) and daughters, Carole (Steve) Wilson, Anne (Doug) LaPine and Lois Calverley (Rick's wife); grandchildren, Kristen, Ricky, Brad, Bryant, Corey, Kyle, Paul (PJ), Erica, Alex, Hannah and Christian; and 17 great grandchildren.
Her family is deeply grateful to the caring staff at Hale Creek Manor and to Compassus Hospice for their compassion and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hale Creek Manor or Compassus Hospice.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church in Hale.
