Robert Tate Obituary

Robert Tate of Greenbush, formerly of Flint, age 96, went peacefully to be reunited with his wife on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Wellbridge of Fenton.
Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place and there will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alcona Humane Society, 457 W. Traverse Bay State Rd., Lincoln, Michigan 48742.
Robert was born March 13, 1929, in Flint, to the late Earl and Cecile (LeFebvre) Tate. He received his high school diploma from Flint Northern High School with the Class of 1947 and honorably served in the United States Navy before being drafted into the United States Army, serving during the Korean War.
In 1950, Robert married his beloved wife, Dorothy Fay, and together they shared 57 years of marriage. Dorothy preceded him in death in 2007.
Prior to his retirement, Robert worked at General Motors for 35 years and was a police officer for the Mt. Morris Township Police Department for 17 years. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Harrisville, Auto City Eagles, and American Legion Post 274 in Oscoda.
Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, golfing, playing softball, and snowmobiling during the winter months. He was the kind of man who always offered a helping hand, a kind smile, and simply lived every day to the fullest. Robert will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
Robert is forever remembered by his children, Terry (Shelley) Tate, Sandy (Stan) Lewicki, and Tom (Sonia) Tate; seven grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and dear friend, John Hough. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Fay; parents, Earl and Cecile; brother, Patrick Tate; and many beloved aunts, uncles, extended family members, and wonderful friends.

I knew Bob back in the 90s/early 2000s before I moved away. We spent time together working with the snowmobile club back then. I remember him as a very kind, hard working man. I think I sold him 3 different snomobiles and one of my Dads over the years. Rest in peace Bob, enjoy some premier snomobiling in heaven!

Unfortunately, I never had the privilege of meeting Bob, but we did bond over our love of my mother's fruitcake. His kind thank-you note will be cherished forever. This picture was taken Christmas 2023 by my brother, John Hough. My sincerest condolences to the entire Tate family.
