Roger Getty Obituary

Roger Eugene Getty, age 73, of Oscoda, passed away on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland.
Roger was born in Ann Arbor on Oct. 30, 1950 to the late Eugene and Erla (Hatter) Getty. He lived his first year with his family in Dundee, and after that the family moved to Lake City.
Roger graduated from Houghton Lake High School in 1968 and spent many of those years working hard on the family farm. He attended Michigan State for one term, returning home to work until he was drafted to go into the Army.
Roger went to work for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor as a Security Officer for 42 years. He also was a painter as a side job. Roger was blessed to have two children. For many years, he was a member of the American Legion and the Forty and Eight in Ypsilanti, which gave him many opportunities to travel the country.
Roger met Gail E. Fry in 2005 and they married in 2007 in a snow storm. In 2016, he retired to his home in Oscoda.
Roger was a hunter and golfer and was an All-Star baseball player in high school. He loved sports of any kind and would watch the Michigan games over and over again. Roger loved to work in the yard and built his own raised vegetable garden from plywood he painted to match his home. He absolutely loved being out in the yard and was always trying to improve the soil for his beloved flowers and plants.
When he wasn't out working in the yard, his TV was his entertainment, but he'd always enjoy a game of Mexican Train Domino's when family would come to visit.
Roger leaves behind his wife of 16 years, Gail; son, David Getty (Christi); daughter, Melissa (Kevin); grandchildren, Zachary, Emily and Matthew; step-daughter, Lisa Gale; step-grandsons, Alex, and Justin; sisters, Sherry and Judy and brother, Brian Getty; beloved aunt, Virginia Jennings; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Allen and Daniel Russell Getty and sister, Debbie Getty McGuire.
The family will welcome friends on Monday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. until the time of service beginning at 11 at Oscoda United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Oscoda United Methodist Church or to the family. You may offer your condolences online at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
