Shirley McIntyre Obituary

Shirley Ann McIntyre, a resident of National City since 1981, formerly a resident of Monroe, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, under the loving care of her family and hospice, age 79 years.
Shirley was born on July 31, 1946, in Middlesboro, Ky. to the late Boyd and Christine (England) Rice. She graduated from Monroe High School with the Class of 1964.
Shirley was a proprietor of the Sand Lake General Store for many years. She also worked as a school bus driver for Tawas Area Schools, a clerk at St. Vincent DePaul, and at the Iosco County Courthouse where she acted as a coordinator for the program From Decisions to Actions and Family Advocate.
Shirley absolutely loved life on Sand Lake, reading a good book, and keeping busy while sewing, painting, and quilting beautiful handmade gifts for her family. Shirley will be left to cherish by everyone who knew and loved her!
She is survived by her loving children, Gregory McIntyre, Michael (Tracy) McIntyre, Laura (Paul) Emmett, and Roswitha McIntyre; her adored grandchildren, Garrick (Cassandra) King, Jesse (Holly) Partee, Gavin Baksic, Jacob Emmett, Christine (Dylan) Rodrigues, Steven McIntyre, Derick McIntyre, and Mathias McIntyre; seven beloved great grandchildren; her sister and best friend, Daisy Jean (Gary) Calfee of Temperance; nieces and nephews, Michelle Baumann, Candi Akins, Amber (Matt) Branum, and Heather (Jim) Savage; and many cousins and dear friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her former husband, Virgil McIntyre; and her parents, Boyd and Christine Rice.
Funeral services for Shirley are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, at 12 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City with Reverend Dan Gonder officiating. Her family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of her funeral service.
Per her wishes, cremation will follow the funeral service and she will be laid to rest at a future date in Pioneer Cemetery in National City. Those wishing to express their condolences may leave a message of love and support for Shirley's family at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.

Shirley was a good friend. She loved to sew, read books and later got into her jigsaw puzzles. She loved to share stories of what it was like around Sand lake in her younger days. We worked together with children from the Hale school mentoring program. I will miss her.
