Thomas Kreiner Obituary

Thomas "Ed" Kreiner, 80, of Hale passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015.
Ed, one of 10 children, was born and raised on a farm in Brown City to Daniel and Francis (Adams) Kreiner, where he also met his wife of 53 years, Irene (Owens) Kreiner. Ed and Irene moved from Sandusky to the Hale area to raise their five children in 1970.
Ed served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army from 1955-1957 where he spent time stationed in Camp Nellingen, Germany as a demolition expert in the 94th Engineering Construction Battalion. After leaving the Army, Ed was president of the Sandusky Jaycees, was a graduate of the Flint Barber School and spent most of his remaining life as a barber working in Sandusky, Hale and Rose City.
Ed, along with his brother, Richard and his family, moved to Hale in the early 1970s and were owners/operators of Rollaway Canoe Livery. In 1975 Ed and his family moved to Sage Lake and ran the Sage Lake Store for many years.
Ed enjoyed woodworking and was considered a master craftsman. He and Irene spent many summers traveling Michigan and selling his beautiful wood products at various craft shows and festivals. Ed also enjoyed spending numerous hours taking care of his property, cutting wood and working with his tractor. Ed was a lifetime baseball fan and enjoyed playing as a child with his brothers on the farm and for Brown City High School and was always a devoted fan of his beloved Detroit Tigers.
Besides his wife, Irene, Ed is survived by his four sons and one daughter, Scott (Amber) Kreiner of Rose City, Barrie (Amanda) Kreiner of Benzonia, Stacee (Jerry) Mahony of Norwell, Mass., Jayson Kreiner, Hale and Jarrett (Heather) Kreiner of Hartland; as well as 13 grandchildren.
A celebration of Ed's life will be held at the American Legion Hall in Hale on Saturday Dec. 12, 2015 beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family where they will be distributed to the many caregivers that helped Ed in his final months.
