Violet Ruth Van Deusen

1939 - 2023

Violet Ruth Van Deusen, age 84, of Tawas City, passed away on Aug. 31, 2023 at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City.
She was born on June 10, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio to Fredrick William Schifler and Josephine Rose (Aikens) Schifler. Violet lived in Alpena and Turner after moving to Michigan for her father's employment.
She was a graduate of Arenac-Eastern High School. She married the love of her life, Harold Van Deusen in AuGres, on Nov. 10, 1962 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Violet worked as a waitress, at various retail shops, and also at the cafeteria of St. Joseph Hospital.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Tawas City, and the Ladies Aid. Violet enjoyed feeding and watching birds, plants, flowers, needlepoint, collecting stones from Lake Huron, and doing puzzle books. She also made many decorated/themed birthday cakes. Violet also enjoyed listening to her favorite singer, Johnny Cash.
Violet is survived by her niece, Karen (Jim) Dye; nephew, John (Kim) Van Deusen; great nephews, Scott, Craigg, Brentt, John, and Dallas; great niece, Bonnie; great-great nieces, Vanessa, Makayla; other nieces and nephews; and several other friends.
In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Van Deusen; brother, Bill (Minnie) Schifler; and her brother-in-law, Dallas (Jean) Van Deusen.
Services for Violet will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Tawas City. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. with a funeral mass at 11 a.m. You may offer an online condolence at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
