Annabelle Cummings-Corrigan Obituary

Annabelle Cummings-Corrigan Annabelle Cummings-Corrigan joined her Heavenly Father upon her peaceful passing on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the age of 91. She had been residing in Hilton Head, SC with her husband Leo Corrigan, who preceded her in death. They moved in 2011 from Indianapolis, IN. Annabelle was born Annabelle Simmons on April 16, 1924 to her parents Netty May Drumond and John Ora Simmons in Indianapolis, IN. She had two sisters, Joyce and Marilyn. She attended schools in the Indianapolis area including graduating from Butler University with honors in 1952. After college she was employed with Indiana Telephone Company. She was only the second woman to achieve the title of Editorial Assistant. She married William H. Cummings on December 26, 1954. They had one son, Scott William Cummings on February 28, 1958. William Cummings worked for Eli Lilly and they were transferred to Roanoke, Va. He was plant manager for a plastic manufacturing plant. They raised their son in Virginia for the next ten years. They enjoyed vacations, skiing in West Virginia, camping in National Parks and trips to Myrtle Beach. The last years there, they enjoyed a farm they acquired in Fincastle. They were transferred back to Eli Lilly Cooperate headquarters in Indianapolis in 1969. William Cummings passed away from cancer at age 46 on May 29, 1970. Annabelle was left alone to raise her son. She succeeded with the help of a strong church family at Tabernacle Presbyterian church, many close friends and neighbors who contributed to assist this amazing mother. She committed her next ten years to running a house, carpools, church youth activities and Boy Scout activities. She also volunteered at Butler University, Little Red Door (a local anti-cancer organization), and the Boy Scout thrift store. After her son, Scott, graduated college she began to date Leo Corrigan. It was love at first sight. After a short courtship they became engaged and married on February 16, 1980. They resided in Indianapolis for the next 21 years. They merged two families and would host Christmas ski vacations in Colorado, holiday dinners in Indianapolis and many other fun family activities. Anabelle took care of all her husband's needs, until later in life when he took care of her. Leo Corrigan preceded her in death one year ago. The two demonstrated the meaning of true and unselfish love to all around them. Her final year without him was marked by her failing memory. She is survived by her son Scott William Cummings and his wife Wendy Conner Cummings; their children, Rebekah Elizabeth, Tristan Scott, Bryson Andrew, Grayson Anne and Annika Kathryn. Also surviving are she and Leo's shared children; Dennis and Sandy Corrigan, Brent and Linda Corrigan, Bruce and Julie Corrigan, Daryl Buswell and Tony and Gail Wessendorff, along with numerous Corrigan Family grandchildren and great grandchildren. To honor Anne's life, there will be visitation on Saturday August 15th, 2015 at 10:00 am at The Island Funeral Home; followed by a simple memorial service at 10:30 am. She will ultimately be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory. theislandfuneralhome.com
