Barbara Storer Just over a day short of her 103rd birthday, Barbara Storer passed on at Morningside of Beaufort, Saturday, July 16. While currently the oldest resident at the facility, 'Miss Bobbi' also had the longest residency at Morningside. Born in Arapahoe County, Colorado, Thelma Barbara Boulton always considered herself a Californian. She spent her formative years in Fort Bragg and Yuba City. She earned her BS in Education and public school teaching certificate from San Jose State University. As an elementary school teacher during World War II, she told stories of volunteering as a civilian recruit manning watchtowers for submarines! She met her husband of sixty-one years, Andrew Storer, while he was training at Camp Cooke with the Fifth Armored Division. Quickly separated by the war, he shipped out to the European Theatre just months after their marriage. Following the war, Bobbi moved from California to the East Coast as her husband's sales career with then St. Regis Paper Company required relocation to both Baltimore and suburban New York. A 'stay at home' mom, Bobbi did a short stint as a columnist for a local neighborhood newspaper in Croton, NY, She volunteered with the Westchester Childrens Association, Parent Teacher Associations, and the Girl Scouts while living in Tarrytown, NY, occasionally enjoying a round of golf every once in a while. Following her husband's 40-year career, retirement years were spent on Amelia Island, Florida when, after her husband's passing, Bobbi moved to Beaufort. She is survived by her daughters Susan Gombocz and husband Bill of Beaufort; Andrea Duncan and husband Jon Webb in Hawaii; grandchildren James Gombocz, Kristen deClive-Lowe, and Parker Duncan; and great grand children Liam and Oliver deClive-Lowe. A celebration of Bobbi's life is happening at Morningside of Beaufort, 109 Old Salem Rd, at 3:30 pm Friday, July 22. Friends and family are welcome. Donations in Bobbi's memory can be given to Compassus Hospice at 10911 North Jacob Smart Blvd, Suite B, Ridgeland, SC 29936 or Low Country Habitat for Humanity, 612 Parris Island Gateway, Beaufort, SC 29906,
