Carl Hattler Obituary

Carl F. Hattler
June 25, 1934 - September 20, 2021
Bluffton, South Carolina - Carl F. Hattler of Colleton River in Bluffton, S.C., passed away September 20, 2021 at home, from complications related to Parkinson's disease. Prior to Bluffton, he was a resident of Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island for 35 years.
Mr. Hattler was born on June 25, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Carl A. Hattler and Ann Heid Hattler. He achieved Eagle Scout rank and graduated from Roger Bacon High school in 1952. He then attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and upon graduating in 1956, married Kathleen Denise "Denny" McCarthy. Mr. Hattler completed his Army service after three years, subsequently beginning his civilian career at Capital Properties in Washington D.C. In 1964 Carl and Denny moved their growing brood to Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he embarked on his own civil engineering enterprise named Citadel Construction. The venture grew, prompting a move to the San Juan metropolitan area where Mr. Hattler continued to pursue varied opportunities. In 1976, his business interests shifted to Hilton Head Island and he established Pavilion Contracting. During his years in South Carolina, he developed an interest in forestry and land management. Late in his career he served as General Manager of Rose Hill Plantation in Bluffton. He had a lifelong passion for opera, particularly for the Wagnerian "Ring."
Mr. Hattler is survived by his wife, Denny, his brother Robert Hattler and sister-in-law Pat of North Carolina, as well as his seven children (and spouses): Hilary Hattler (Ricardo Marti), Andrea Hattler Bramson (Brian), Kelly Hattler Carr (Larry), Amy Hattler Page (Ron), Diana McDonough (Dan), William Hattler (Lorna) and Robert Hattler (Kirstan). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to his long term physician Dr. Wayne Johnson, M.D., his caregiver Ms. Lunetta Grayson, and the personnel at KKares, as well as Compassus Hospice. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a donation to the Hilton Head Volunteers in Medicine at 15 Northridge Drive, HHI, 29926, or the charity of your choice, in memory of Mr. Hattler.
Services will be held at 10:30AM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, S.C. on Friday September 24th. This will be followed by burial at Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island.
