Cynthia Cormack Obituary

Cynthia Barker Cormack Cynthia Barker Cormack, 95 of Columbus, NC, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2015 at Tryon Estates in Polk County, NC. Prior to moving to Tryon Estates, Mrs. Cormack lived on Hilton Head Island for 13 years. Mrs. Cormack was born to the late Williston Wright and Gertrude Sherman Barker on October 13, 1920 in Boston, MA. She was a graduate of Brimmer School, Boston, MA, Class of 1938 and Smith College, Northhampton, MA, Class of 1942, where she received her BA. She served in WAVES,Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, during WWII as PHM 2/C. Mrs. Cormack worked as a hematology research technician for Harvard Medical School and also raised a family with her late husband, Bruce L. Cormack, who died in 1995. They were married for 48 years. Mrs. Cormack is survived by her son, Alan B. Cormack; daughters, Anne C. Patten, Marcia B. Cormack and Barbara W. Cormack; 2 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. Her ashes will be interred at a future date at All Saints Episcopal Church in Hilton Head, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to All Saints Episcopal Church, 3001 Meeting St., Hilton Head, SC, 29926 or to American Cancer Society, Hilton Head Chapter, 5 Palmetto Bay Business Park, Hilton Head, SC, 29928.
