Sun City Bluffton, South Carolina - In Loving Memory of David Clinton Gallagher (1940-2024)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Clinton Gallagher, beloved husband, family member, and friend, on March 4, 2024, in Sun City Hilton Head, Bluffton, following a brief illness. He was 83 years old.
Born on July 1, 1940, in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Emmeline Gallagher (nee Mackey), a dedicated dress shop owner, and Basil "Red" Gallagher, a revered news reporter with assignments during World War II, David grew up nurtured in a home filled with love and resilience. He was the cherished younger brother to Shelia and Lucie, with whom he shared countless precious memories.
David's educational journey began in the parochial schools of Plainfield before he transferred to Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey, during his sophomore year. A 1959 graduate of Blair, David carried his thirst for knowledge to Hobart College in Geneva, New York, laying the groundwork for a future marked by professional achievement and personal fulfillment.
His career took a pivotal turn when he joined Chrysler Corp., leading him to Royal Oak, Michigan. It was there that fate introduced him to Susan J. Albert (nee Miller), marking the beginning of a loving partnership that would flourish over more than 30 years. Following his tenure at Chrysler, David dedicated his efforts to the Detroit Institute for Children, passionately advocating for children with special needs-a testament to his compassionate spirit.
In 2007, David and Sue embarked on a new chapter in Sun City Hilton Head, where their passion for tennis, golf, and the community's vibrant life thrived. An avid member of a local book group, David's love for the cultured life never waned. His enthusiasm for exploring museums, art galleries, and historic sites was infectious, often leading excursions with friends and family, eager to share his knowledge and appreciation for the world's beauty and history. David's legacy is one of love, learning, and laughter. His warm presence and insightful conversations will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A gathering to celebrate David C. Gallagher's remarkable life will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Jameson's Charhouse, 671 Cypress Hills Dr., Bluffton, SC 29909. We invite you to join us in sharing your favorite memories of David, as we honor a life well-lived and cherish the moments that brought us together.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Detroit Institute for Children, in memory of David's unwavering commitment to supporting children in need.
