Dominick Favata Obituary

Dominick D. Favata Dominick Daniel Favata went to his final rest on Sunday March 7, 2010 at peace with The Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 68. Dominick was born April 7, 1941 in Marlboro, NY son of the late Alfonso and Alice (Lupo) Favata. He attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, graduated with an Economics degree and then Fairleigh Dickenson University for a Master's Degree in finance. Dominick worked for Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ, and was an executive for Ingersoll Rand and Rowe International. His finance career took him all over the country and the world. The family moved to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Michigan and Maryland. Three years ago, they retired to the warmer climate of Hilton Head Island, SC to relax on golf courses and to enjoy the ocean. Dominick enjoyed playing tennis and golf which was by far his favorite. In Hilton Head he became a member of Dolphin Head Golf Club. He was an active supporter and coach of his children's athletic and scouting pursuits. Although he realized that winning wasn't everything and he preached it many times over the years-he really seemed to enjoy life more when his teams were winning! Throughout his life he was active in his church community serving as Eucharistic Minister, lecture, a retreat leader for Renew, Marriage Encounter and Cursillo programs and a member of Reilly Council of Knights of Columbus. Dominick's life was centered on his family, his faith and his zest for life. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eileen. He will be dearly missed by his children David and Karen Favata, Suzanne and Peter Chaikowsky, Judith and Martin Hanley and Kara Favata , his brother Alfred and his grandchildren Sean, Kaitlyn and Connor Chaikowsky, Stephanie and Michael Favata and Brigid and Mary Hanley and several nieces and nephews and many others whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his sister Teresa Kerr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Interment will be in Six Oaks Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 P.M. at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory, 4 Cardinal Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 (www.stjude.org/tribute) or Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, P.O. Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910 (www.hospicecarelc.org).
