Elizabeth Key Obituary

Elizabeth Stockton Key
June 10, 1939 - January 27, 2023
Beaufort, South Carolina - Elizabeth S. Key passed away Friday, January 27, 2023 in Beaufort, SC. Liz was born in Roanoke, Virginia on June 10, 1939, growing up with three younger brothers. She met her husband, James C. Key, when they were 13, married at 25, and enjoyed 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2017. Liz spent 40 + years as a nurse, from a health clinic on a reservation in Oklahoma to Planned Parenthood on the east side of St. Louis, providing health education and OBGYN care.
During the last 8 years of Jim's IBM career, she and Jim traveled the world, living for months at a time in such places as Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Beijing, Paris, and Rome.
Upon their mutual retirement, Jim and Liz moved to Beaufort, where she spent most of the past 23 years.
She is survived by Jay Key and Annie Kunjappy-Key (Brooklyn, NY), Hunter Key and Suzanne VanParreren (Darien, Ga), Lori and Andy Ferguson (Atlanta), as well as her six grandchildren Hunter, Preston, Ellie, Sasha, Miles, and Lucas.
With Jim, she helped start and build the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Beaufort. A celebration of Liz's life is scheduled for April 8th at 2pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Dear Elizabeth, mother and grandmother of so many wonderful human beings. That alone is a magnificent life work. Plus all the other things you did for others. What a blessing. I personally want to thank you for the hospitality and vivid talks we had, so connected, the only time we met - in 2018 in Darien. For someone to connect so freely to a stranger was such a beautiful gift. Safe passage to wherever is next for you - and for all humans. Love and Light, Tobias
