Ella Wade Fox Ella Wade Fox, 100, died June 8th at home in Bloomington. Mrs. Fox was born in Howe, Indiana, January 14, 1916 to Dr. Frank Chase Wade and Ruth Nelson Wade. She attended Rockford College and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1937 where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She married July 6, 1946 to Fox. During World War II Mrs. Fox served for 19 months with the American Red Cross in India. She was stationed at Ondal, a Service Base in Bengal; at Ranikhet a rest camp for enlisted men in the Himalayas; and finally at Karachi in what is now Pakistan. The Red Cross Clubs planned recreation for the soldiers. During this tour of duty in India, she met her husband, another native of Indiana, who was in the Army Air Corps. They had lived all their lives just 50 miles apart in Indiana. After marriage they lived in San Francisco, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., Arlington, VA., and Lake Forest, IL. In 1980 they retired to Beaufort, SC. They lived on Lady's Island in Beaufort for 26 years before moving to Meadowood, a retirement community in Bloomington, IN. Here she served on the Resident Council and as one of the editors on the board of the Anthology, a quarterly publication of Meadowood. Mrs. Fox was a life-long and devout member of the Episcopal Church. In Beaufort she was also very active in the Sea Island Garden Club and the golf and bridge organizations in both the Dataw Island Club and the Country Club of Beaufort. Survivors are her husband, John, and their three children: John Fox, Jr. (Carla) of La Mesa, CA; David Fox (Pat Tjaden) of Denver, CO; and Nancy Fox (James Heller) of Denver, CO. Grandchildren are Evan Fox (Nikki) of Dacca, Bangladesh; Darcy Mock (Michael) of La Mesa, CA; Jesse Fox of San Diego, CA; Erica Fox of Denver, CO; and Lauren Heller of Chicago, IL. Great-grandchildren are Ryo Fox, Maya Fox, and Calvin Mock. Two sisters preceded her in death: Rachel Wade Havens of Lakewood, OH and Mary Anne Wade of Howe, IN. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 1pm at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington with The Rev. Henny Grossoehme officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Howe, IN.
