Erma Elsie Lenz With great earthly sadness yet joy of heaven's glory, the family of Erma Lenz announce that Erma Elsie Lenz, age 83 of Hilton Head Island, S.C. died peacefully on Saturday at 9:30 pm. Erma was born on June 28, 1933 to Edward and Martha Schultz. Her parents were first generation immigrants from Germany and Erma is the middle of three daughters, Ruth, Erma and Gertrude, all predeceased by several years. Erma was baptized and confirmed at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, attended Trinity Lutheran Day School and graduated from Utica High School, all in Utica, Michigan. She married Robert Albert Lenz on November 22, 1952. She worked as a secretary for an Army Major at the Detroit Arsenal. The couple moved from Michigan to New Jersey in 1961 and lived there for 21 years before retiring to Hilton Head Plantation in Hilton Head Island, S.C. While living in New Jersey, Erma was an accomplished realtor earning many top sales awards throughout her 21 year career. She was active in her churches serving as Chairman of Evangelism and Social Ministry Boards; attending Bible classes; and serving as a Gideon Auxiliary member. She was an officer in the Local Aid Association for Lutherans and Thrivent Chapters, raising funds for local charities and church organizations. She was a regular volunteer at the Pregnancy Center of Low Country. Even with all of that, Erma managed to enjoy tennis, golf, bridge as well as her involvement in the Republican Club and stock club. Erma will be forever cherished and remembered by her beloved husband of 64 years, Robert A. Lenz of Hilton Head Island. Her last few days were surrounded by her three children and their spouses: Kenneth R. Lenz (Carol), Kurt A. Lenz (Kelly) & Kerry Morgan (James). Erma is survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild: Kathleen Crum (Matthew) and great grandson Matthew Crum Il; Karl Lenz; Kory Lenz; Sydney Morgan; Abigail Lenz; Mackenzie Morgan; Susanna Lenz; Tucker Morgan. Funeral services will be held at Island Lutheran Church at 10:00 am today (Wednesday). The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
