George Post Obituary

George B. Post, Jr.George Post, the real estate appraiser, musician and past Chairman of the Beaufort Housing Authority Board, Beaufort's Board of Architectural Review and Zoning Board of Appeals, died peacefully February 27 surrounded by his family. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio the son of George and Linda Post, grew up in Darien, Connecticut, and was educated at St. Marks School and at Harvard College. He moved with his wife Sally to Beaufort in 1989. In 2004 Post was appointed by the Beaufort City Council to The Housing Authority Board, where from 2005 to his retirement in 2013 Post served as chairman.  He served as chairman of the city's Historic Review Board, then known as The Board of Architectural Review, from 1998 to 2002. From 1991-1994 Post served on the city's Zoning Board of Appeals, from 1993-4, as its chairman. For the past 22 years Post has been a general certified residential and commercial real estate appraiser for Bundy Appraisal and Management. An avid sailor, he was a  Commodore of the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club. A gifted performer, he was a regular in Beaufort Performing Arts performances. Prior to his arrival in Beaufort, Post played keyboards and was the lead singer for the rock band, The Nude Ants, that performed regularly at CDBG's, The Peppermint Lounge and at other clubs on New York's trend-setting Lower East Side and at Studio 54 and Traxx uptown. The Nude Ants won numerous awards for their music videos, including for "Lady Light" that was written and performed by Post. He is survived by his wife Sally, and their sons Ben and James. His vibrant energy, enthusiasm for life and laugh will be long-remembered. The family asks that memorial gifts be made to The First Presbyterian Church Music Fund in Beaufort, or The Islesboro Island Trust, 376 West Bay Road in Islebboro, Maine. George was talented but gracious. He always seemed happy to be alive. I recall seeing George after many, many years and we talked as if our conversation was a simple continuation of the last one. Though Islesboro was our primary connection, I love Beaufort, too, and that resonated.
The good die young -- and George was forever young at heart.
